Hi all,

Please pick your three favorite expressions form the three sections below (1 expression from each category). And, tell us why you like them. How will you use it later?

You must make a reply to at least two classmates' answers.
When you have any comment from others, please make a reply on it as well.
This HW is due tomorrow (7/27). See you tomorrow, thanks!

1. Delaying Strategies
 I can’t answer that directly.
I’ll need time to think about that.
 That’s a very interesting question,
because...
That’s a difficult question to answer, because...
That’s a tough question to answer, because...
To be honest, that’s a difficult question, because ...
That’s a very good question. The reality is that ...
What do you mean by that
What do you mean by ...
Well, it depends on what you mean...
Well, if you ask me, it all depends on your
circumstances...
 Well....

2. Agreeing in part
 Yes, perhaps, however ...
 Well, yes, but ...
Yes, in a way, however ...
 Hmm, possibly, but ...
Yes, I agree up to a point, however ...
Well, you have a point there, but ...
 There's something there, I suppose,
however...
I guess you could be right, but ...
Yes, I suppose so, however ...
That's worth thinking about, but ...

3. Disagreeing diplomatically (through doubt)
I wonder whether that’s the case.Hmmm, I’m not sure about that..
I’m not sure (that) it works like that
I’m not so sure about that
I’m not so certain
Well, I’m not sure whether you can really ... Well, I don’t know...
Well, it depends...
I’m inclined to disagree with that...

  1. I would choose the delaying strategies. Because these strategies I should use them for speaking a lot and these can help me to practice English, and I will use these strategies in the class or in public places.

    1. Good. So how do you use this sentence?

    2. For example, "What do you mean by that" I can use this question if I don't understand something.

  2. The first of my option is "What do you mean by" it is simple to express on the delaying strategies. The second is "I guess you could be right, but" it could be useful of the questions on the agreeing part. The third is "well, it depends" it is stronger to express of the disagreeing. I would use it at the class of speaking.

  4. One of my favorite expression is that "That is a very interesting question, because..." , because it can give more extra time to think about this question. Meanwhile, I admit this question. In the future, if I can not answer questions quickly, i can use this sentence. Other expression I like is " That is worth thinking about it " , this sentence not only can agree extent, but also it is a good transportation to from this topic to another topic. In the class, it can help me agree other student's opinions. For example, a student ask me that do you agree this idea? I could say this sentence. The reason why i choose that " I wonder whether that’s the case.Hmmm, I’m not sure about that.." is that I can express my ideas or minds completely. For example, a students asks me a question, and he let me to think about whether is right or not. I could can this sentence. And i can use my own ideas to tell him.

  5. I pick these."That’s a difficult question to answer, because...", "I guess you could be right, but ..." and "I’m not sure (that) it works like that." Those can help me to express my idea about something exactly. I will use those in the life.

  6. The first expression for me is ;'What do you mean by that? '' i think is more easy to ask someone to something we need to understand correctly , it's also the easy way to ask him this question using '' mean'' ; ex : what do you mean about , texting me every sunday ? . The second it's ; '' i guess , you could be right , just because , it's sometimes better to not directly be right with statement, or talk from someone or some subjet , it's sometime better to be uncertain of this kind of stuff to be deep and right in a discussion , for exemple , someone who tell you that , marriage it's not good , you maybe not agree withthis , maybe agree , but you have to think about that for a moment , so you can use directly , i guess , you could be right " THird ; ''it's depend'' , sometimes , thing are equal and others no , you could have some different information about that , but , it could makes you think.. for example ; price of rice is to much more than beans , and other person can says , it's depend , of season.

  7. "Well, yes. But.." That is not rude and showing your disagreement. In addition, "What do you mean by./,," "Do" is more important than before. It means that you are hurry to know that. Finally, "Well. It depends....." that is good because it support other's idea and on the other hand, showing the disagreement.

  9. I enjoy using "What do you mean by ...? " in my future talking part, because this sentence is useful and I always hear Mrs.Smith say that so it must be a regular and helpful sentence. " Yes, in a way, however ... " is also a good sentence because it's good way to give a agreement but also send a different point of view withe each other in a polite way. "Well, it depends..." is good because it's more professional to talk like this.

  10. first, I choose this sentence (What do you mean by that?). I like this sentence because if you do not understand something, this question may help you. I'm gonna use it when someone say something not clearly. Second, I choose this sentence (Yes, I agree up to a point, however). I like it because I can share my opinion to another person. I'm gonna use it when someone has a good point and I have another point which is posit. Third, I choose this sentence (I’m not so certain). I like it because someone said something I don't know or I'm not sure about it. I am going to use it when something I have no idea about it.

  11. I will choose Delaying Strategies. I like it because it's simple and very clear to understand. For example, I can't answer that dirctilly it's mean that you may don't want answer the questions.
